1990 Through 1995 4S-FE
- The second generation of the 4S line of engines was the 4S-FE. This was a double-overhead cam (DOHC) engine with 16 valves. The 1.8 liter featured a bore of 82.5 millimeters and a stroke of 86 millimeters and 9.3:1 compression ratio. The total engine displacement was 1,838 centimeters. The 4S-FE produced an improved 113 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 116 foot-pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm. This version of the 4S-FE was in production from 1990 through 1995.
1995 Through 1998 4S-FE
- The final generation of the 4S engines was the second version of the 4S-FE. This engine, just as with the first 4S-FE, was a double-overhead cam (DOHC) with 4 valves per cylinder. The 4S-FE also came with a bore of 82.5 millimeters and a stroke of 86 millimeters, creating a total displacement of 1,838 cubic centimeters. The compression ratio was measured at 9.5:1. This version of the 4S-FE also improved power, delivering 125 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 120 foot-pounds of torque at 4,600 rpm. The 4S-FE was utilized from 1995 through 1998, as the 1ZZ and 2ZZ engines replaced the 4S engines in 1999.
